Don’t you know that the runners in a stadium all race, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way to win the prize. Now everyone who competes exercises self-control in everything. However, they do it to receive a crown that will fade away, but we a crown that will never fade away. Therefore I do not run like one who runs aimlessly or box like one beating the air.
(1 Corinthians 9:24-26 HCSB)
Can you imagine an athlete that doesn’t train? Actually, I don't think we could call them an athlete at all, could we? We are familiar with those people who watch sports on TV and then critique as though they had been out training all week for the event. I know I'm guilty of telling my football team how to play and why they are losing, etc.
Or what if someone put those cute little stickers on their car representing the distance they have competed in, yet have never run in a marathon?
A true athlete will live a life different than most. They must refuse a certain life style, abstain from certain foods, and embrace healthy habits. They have a goal in mind and they work to achieve it.
Similarly, there are people today who say they are Christians but sadly they are more like the wanna-be athlete. The effort to live a holy life is too much commitment. I don't want to Attend church and knowing the Bible doesn’t’ make you a Christian. Unless you believe with your heart confess with your mouth… Inward change will have a byproduct of outward change. What are you doing to strengthen your relationship with Jesus? Are you just punching at the air? Or are you striking something? “fight on” my sisiter! Fight Strong!
